Enterprise Support Programme

To address the impact of the pandemic on Black, Asian and Minority ethnic-led businesses, Islington Council has partnered with Action for Race Equality to deliver the Enterprise Support programme. This support forms one strand of Islington Council’s comprehensive Business Recovery Programme for the borough.

Business owners from Black, Asian, and Minority ethnic backgrounds face many challenges in keeping their businesses running and in strategically navigating the enterprise landscape in the UK. The COVID-19 pandemic has deepened these existing challenges, posing further risks to entrepreneurial growth for leaders from Black, Asian and Minority ethnic backgrounds.

Islington Council recognises these unique barriers and is working closely with Action for Race Equality to provide culturally tailored support for Black, Asian and Minority ethnic owned businesses in the borough.

Programme Summary

The Programme is now closed to new applicants.

“The masterclass was greatโ€ฆ[especially] the suggestion to touch base with charities to attract new customers. I will utilise the range of skills [covered] to branch out further.”

Case study

Naomi, Shea Love London

Alongside being a nurse and midwife, Noami is the director and owner of Shea Love London, a cosmetics company. She was one of the first participants to join the Enterprise Support Programme in February 2022.

Donning these multiple roles, Naomi felt she was also juggling different business functions, including sourcing ingredients and producing her product; labelling; packaging, and the delivery of the product, including to shops that stock it. She joined the Enterprise Programme to learn how to better organise her time, and improve the efficiency and strategy of her business.

By the end of the Programme, Naomi left with more than time and work-flow management skills.

I’m glad this opportunity was given to me to expand my knowledge in business.“
